Economic, social and cultural rights are a type of human rights that guarantee us the necessary conditions for a decent life and full participation in society. The protection of economic, social and cultural rights ensures that everyone in society can achieve prosperity, realize their potential, and be happy and satisfied with their lives.
In this sense, economic, social and cultural rights provide basic human needs and socio-economic development of the country.
Economic rights include the right to work, the right to freedom from forced labor, the right to fair wages, a safe working environment, the right to organize trade unions and others.
Social rights include the right to health, the right to housing, the right to education, the right to social security and others.
Cultural rights include the right to protect culture and traditions, the right to participate in the cultural life of society, as well as the right to use and benefit from scientific achievements.
Recently, the right to a healthy environment has also been included in the scope of these rights. In this regard, these rights are defined as economic, social, cultural and environmental rights in the new edition Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Economic, social and cultural rights are second generation rights. These rights are protected by various international and regional instruments, as well as state constitutions. The International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights guarantees these rights at the international level.
The Republic of Uzbekistan acceded to this International Covenant on the basis of the Resolution of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan
“On accession to the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights on December 16, 1966” dated August 31, 1995.
These rights are protected at the national level by Chapter IX of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
