The IV Samarkand Forum on Human Rights “Environmental challenges: ensuring sustainable solutions for the future of human rights in a changing world” will be held in Uzbekistan on June 13-14, 2024.

Three plenary sessions will be held offline and online as part of the event.

According to the National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights, the main goal of the Samarkand Forum is to discuss issues related to the impact of climate change on human rights.

Participants will have the opportunity to exchange experiences and become familiar with the best practices of the international community.

The forum’s work will focus on developing concrete recommendations and solutions to mitigate the negative impacts of climate change on human rights. The event is expected to develop effective strategies and approaches to help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals and protect the rights of all people in a changing climate.

The forum’s national organizers are the National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights, the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan, and the Development Strategy Center.

One of the international partners is the UN team in Uzbekistan – the office of the UN Resident Coordinator in Uzbekistan, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights' (OHCHR) Regional Office for Central Asia, and the UNDP office in Uzbekistan.

Also among the partners is the office of the OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan and the representative office of the Friedrich Ebert and Konrad Adenauer foundations in the country.

The forum is expected to involve 200 experts. In particular, domestic and foreign experts on climate change issues, heads of government organizations involved in climate change issues, representatives of civil society institutions, the media, research centers, companies, business circles, and international organizations are invited to the prestigious event.
