On May 6, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with the presentation of projects in the railway sector.
The unique geographical location of Uzbekistan and the high pace of industrial development increase the role of railway transport. In recent years, the railways of Uzbekistan have come a long way in development. A modern infrastructure was created that meets the population’s and economic sectors’ needs and a comprehensive railway network.
During the years of independence, more than 2,400 kilometers of new railways were built, and more than 3,000 kilometers were electrified. The domestic railway industry has the capabilities of heavy engineering and ferrous metallurgy. Today, this sector reliably and effectively connects all regions of the country.
Thanks to this, Uzbekistan, with its modern transport communications and high transit potential, has become an important hub of international railways connecting East with West and South with North. The country’s active investment policy and attractive business conditions have strengthened its importance as a transport hub at the intersection of trade routes.
In this regard, priority is given to continuing work on constructing and modernizing railways. Projects in this direction were discussed at the presentation.
Particular attention was paid to the issues of further expansion of transport and logistics potential and its practical use. The need for consistent diversification of transport corridors was emphasized to improve entrepreneurs’ access to the world market and increase export opportunities.
Practical measures for constructing the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway, which will become an essential component of trans-regional ties within the framework of the Belt and Road initiative, were considered. According to experts, this transport corridor will contribute to the accelerated development of the three countries and the entire Central Asian region.
Information was presented on the progress of processes to create new transport corridors connecting Central Asia with South Asia.
The Head of state also instructed on developing aviation infrastructure, transforming airports into international transit hubs, and building and repairing modern highways.
