Representatives of the National Human Rights Institutions of Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Serbia, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan held a working meeting via videoconference on 22 April 2020.

During the video conference, participants discussed the upcoming meeting of the Eurasian Ombudsman Alliance in the form of a videoconference dedicated to the discussion of human rights issues in the context of the coronavirus pandemic, as well as the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II.

In the course of the video conference, it is planned to discuss the problems of human rights protection in the circumstances of pandemic, the role of national institutions in the new realities, as well as to exchange experience and identify ways to improve cooperation between national institutions of ombudsmen and civil society to protect the rights of veterans and older generations.

Representatives of the National Center of Uzbekistan for Human Rights briefed on the measures taken in the sphere of human rights protection amid COVID-19 pandemic. Notably, strictly necessary, but at the same time effective, proportionate to the threat, the measures taken by the Government of Uzbekistan to combat the spread of coronavirus and reduce the inevitable impact on human rights, especially the rights of those most vulnerable - children, women, migrants and prisoners were discussed.

The participants of the meeting emphasized that the effectiveness of anti-crisis measures taken by States largely depends on the exchange of reliable information on a regular basis, as well as the experience of the participation of National Human Rights Institutions in countering COVID-19.
