On 22–23 July 2026, the city of Bishkek (Kyrgyz Republic) hosted a regional seminar on the theme “Expanding Women’s Participation and Integrating Gender Aspects into Cross-Border Cooperation in Central Asia.” The seminar was organized within the framework of the Border Management Programme in Central Asia (BOMCA), with the financial support of the European Union.
The seminar brought together representatives of government agencies and national human rights institutions from the countries of Central Asia — the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and the Republic of Uzbekistan — as well as international partners and experts.
The Republic of Uzbekistan was represented by a delegation that included representatives of the Customs Committee, the Committee on Family and Women, and the National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights.
Participants focused their attention on the integration of a gender-sensitive approach into the work of the relevant agencies, the expansion of women’s participation in border management and the provision of regional security, and the exchange of best practices and lessons learned in the national and regional context.
Over the course of the seminar, participants delivered national presentations on best practices and lessons learned in introducing a gender-sensitive approach into the work of government institutions.
Participants underscored the importance of strengthening regional cooperation and continuing dialogue on gender equality as an integral component of sustainable development and security in Central Asia.
