Uzbekistan Participated in a Legal Forum in St. Petersburg

Large-scale legislative reforms are underway in Uzbekistan, aimed, among other things, at expanding guarantees of human rights and freedoms. Academician Akmal Saidov spoke about this at the international conference "Constitutional Review and Modern Global Challenges" held in St. Petersburg on May 20.

The international conference of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation brought together representatives of constitutional justice bodies, parliamentary structures, the scientific and expert community, and international organizations from various countries.

The expert community discussed the contemporary challenges facing constitutional review bodies in the context of geopolitical transformation, rapid technological development, climate change, the spread of artificial intelligence, and other factors impacting national legal systems.

Opening the conference, Valery Zorkin, Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Russian Federation, emphasized the particular importance of constitutional justice in ensuring the stability of statehood, protecting constitutional values, and strengthening the principles of the rule of law in the face of global instability. Akmal Saidov, Director of the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Foreign Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, noted in his report that constitutional values must remain a solid foundation for legal regulation in an era of technological and geopolitical change. Particular attention was paid to the large-scale legislative reforms underway in Uzbekistan aimed at strengthening the principles of the rule of law and social welfare, the independence of the judiciary, and expanding guarantees of human rights and freedoms.

The conference included a broad exchange of views on the development of constitutional justice, improving human rights protection mechanisms, and strengthening international cooperation between constitutional review bodies.

Forum participants emphasized the importance of continuing professional dialogue and sharing best practices in constitutional justice to jointly respond to contemporary global challenges.
